Mark Grulke

Mark Grulke has worked in the fields of motor vehicle maintenance and forensic vehicle examination for over 30 years.  He started with a solid grounding as an Apprentice Vehicle Mechanic under the Australian Army Apprentice scheme in 1981.  He served for 15 years before joining the Queensland Police Service where he served as a General Duties Constable in Brisbane's inner suburbs.

Mark moved to Melbourne in 1998 where he worked in the heavy vehicle and material handling industries as a Service Manager before taking a position at the Victoria Police Forensic Services Center as Manager of the Vehicle Examination Unit (VEU).  It was here that he became a qualified Forensic Vehicle Examiner, examining motor vehicles and motorcycles for identification, rebuild, modifications, mechanical failure, engineering design faults, light and glass analysis, vehicle fires and collision analysis.

Mark moved from the VEU in 2007 to further his technical expertise and experience, taking a position as a Technical Officer with the Land Engineering Agency, Defence Material Organization.  In this part of his career Mark worked as a Technical Data and Configuration Manager, Systems Engineering Manager - Test and Evaluation and Senior Technical Adviser.  In these positions Mark performed technical investigations and test and evaluations on the Australian Army's fleet of Armoured and General Service Vehicles.

Mark has maintained his ties with the Australian Army in a Reserve capacity and holds the commissioned rank of Captain in the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers .

Mark established M G Automotive Forensics in 2008 to provide professional forensic vehicle examination and crash reconstruction services to Industry.  Main customers include major Insurance Companies, Industry and the Legal Profession.  He completed training in Motor Vehicle Accident Investigation and Reconstruction with the Northwestern University for Public Safety in Chicago, USA, during 2012 and has attended the ARC-CSI crash testing conference in Las Vegas in 2011 and 2013, World Reconstruction Expo in 2016 and Event Data Recorder conference in 2017.  Completed Advanced Reconstruction with Crash Data training in 2013 and Perception Response Timing (PRT) analysis with Dr Geoff Muttart in 2016.  Participated in Crash Testing with ASPACI in 2014 and 2018.  Qualified to retrieve and interpret crash data from all currently supported vehicles, including heavy vehicles and Tesla electric vehicles

Mark has presented to the Institute of Australasian Automotive Theft Investigator (IAATI) on vehicle re-birthing and vehicle collision reconstruction/collision damage profiling.  He is a member of the Australia and South Pacific Association of Collision Investigators.

Mark has provided evidence to the Melbourne Magistrates, County and Supreme courts as an expert in the area of motor vehicle identification, motor vehicle collision reconstruction and hail storm damage.
